Cybersecurity by Industry
Every industry has its own attack surface.
A production line has different vulnerabilities than an online banking platform, and a hospital has different obligations than an online shop. That’s why we approach cybersecurity by industry: our penetration tests take your systems, your data, and your regulatory requirements into account – so the results address the areas where your risk is greatest.

Cybersecurity by industry: why focus matters
Attackers take the path of least resistance – and that path looks different in every industry. In manufacturing, it is often the remote maintenance access to a production system; at financial service providers, a flaw in the business logic; in hospitals, the flat network between administration and medical technology; in online retail, a checkout that can be manipulated.
That’s why every industry-specific pentest we run starts with one question: How does your organization work? Which systems are business-critical, and which data needs special protection? Which requirements apply – such as NIS2, DORA, PCI DSS 4.0.1, TISAX, or the GDPR? And which operational constraints do we need to respect, from maintenance windows and sales peaks to patient care?
Methodologically, we follow recognized standards such as the OWASP Testing Guide, PTES, and the penetration testing guide published by the BSI (Germany’s Federal Office for Information Security), the Durchführungskonzept für Penetrationstests. Because we are independent of vendors and service providers, we assess your security posture objectively.

What sets an industry-specific penetration test apart from a standard test?
The methodology is the same; the focus is not. We align the scope, test scenarios, and assessment with the systems, data, and threats of your industry – for example, industrial protocols in manufacturing or payment flows in retail. Our risk ratings also reflect what a successful attack would actually mean in your environment.
Which services make sense for my industry?
That depends on your attack surface. A good starting point is often an external and internal infrastructure test, a test of your most important web application, and an Active Directory assessment; depending on your industry, OT, API, cloud, or social engineering tests may be added. During scoping, we recommend a suitable combination – without services you don’t need.
Does a penetration test help with NIS2, DORA, PCI DSS 4.0.1, or TISAX?
Yes, as technical evidence. Many frameworks – from NIS2 to the VDA ISA catalog for TISAX – require you to regularly verify the effectiveness of your security measures; DORA and PCI DSS 4.0.1 even name penetration testing explicitly. The test documents scope, methodology, findings, and measures in a traceable way – but it does not replace a certification, an audit, or an assessment.
What does working with you look like?
After a no-obligation initial consultation, we clarify goals, systems, and constraints during scoping; a dedicated point of contact at Rootsektor accompanies you throughout the entire project. For penetration tests and security assessments, you receive a fixed-price quote within 24 hours (on business days). After the test, you receive the report, a final debrief if you wish, a free retest of the remediated vulnerabilities, and the test certificate.
Do you only work in Germany?
No. We work for companies in Germany and internationally. We usually test web applications, APIs, and external systems remotely, and internal networks and Active Directory either on-site or remotely – via VPN or a provided test system. For OT, wireless, and physical tests, we come to you.
How do you ensure confidentiality?
We put confidentiality in writing before the project starts: if you wish, we sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) in advance – and we’re happy to use your own template. We use documents, credentials, and results exclusively for the agreed test and share them only with the designated contacts.
